Entering its 8th season, the Hockey East Skating Strides program has raised nearly $230,000 for various breast cancer charities. Skating Strides has also given the student athletes the opportunity to give back to the communities in which they study and play hockey.
Hockey East has been proud to partner with the Friends of Mel Foundation (FOM) since 2008. In addition to supporting the FOM survivor conference, FOM distributes funds raised at the women’s collegiate hockey games throughout New England to several local charities. Organizations that have benefitted from Skating Strides fundraising efforts include, but are not limited to, The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing in Maine; Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation in Rhode Island; the Vermont Cancer Center; The Ellie Fund in Massachusetts and Necessities Bag in Connecticut.
