On Monday, January 20th, the University of Connecticut women’s hockey team will take a break from the rigors of a Hockey East game schedule to focus on giving back to the community. The Skating Strides clinic is scheduled on January 20th for hockey players aged 8 -13 at the Freitas Ice Forum on the school campus in Storrs, Connecticut.
The clinic provides the perfect opportunity for the team to meet and work with talented local youth hockey players and at the same time, raises awareness and support for the Friends of Mel Foundation and breast cancer programs. The participants are put through on- and off-ice workouts instructed by UConn women athletes. Girls and boys alike will lace up their skates and don pink practice jerseys as they hit the ice for drills. They will also have the opportunity to practice conditioning drills on the turf in the Shenkman Training Center. The day will conclude with a meet-and-greet with the school mascot - Jonathan the Husky - and an autograph session with the Huskies. It’s a fun day designed around a great cause.
